The Africa Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nigeria have reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable development, following a high-level meeting between Dr. Eugene Itua, Executive Director of AGESI, and Ms. Elsie Attafuah, UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria.

The strategic meeting comes on the heels of AGESI’s official launch on June 18, an event where Ms. Attafuah delivered a compelling address in support of AGESI’s vision. In this follow-up engagement, Dr. Itua formally extended his appreciation for the UNDP’s invaluable support and discussed the way forward for deepened collaboration.

“This partnership marks a pivotal step in aligning AGESI’s mission—Empowering Leaders for a Sustainable Africa—with UNDP’s longstanding work in driving inclusive development in Nigeria,” said Dr. Itua.

A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Nigeria

The discussions explored concrete initiatives for joint action, focusing on key areas such as:

  • Green growth and economic transformation
  • Climate action and resilience-building
  • Policy innovation and leadership development

Both institutions expressed a shared vision to leverage their combined expertise and networks to drive measurable impact on sustainability outcomes for Nigeria’s people, environment, and economy.

“Our collaboration with UNDP reinforces our belief that strategic partnerships are essential to building the systems and leadership Africa needs to thrive in a green future,” Dr. Itua added.

Institutional Alignment for Greater Impact

The meeting also explored opportunities to align AGESI’s programming with UNDP’s development agenda, particularly in areas such as capacity building, climate finance, and national policy support. AGESI reaffirmed its readiness to serve as an implementation partner and a center of excellence for innovation in environmental sustainability.
